What is the damage that the depletion of the ozone layer can cause?

The UV radiation can harm crops, animals, humans, and the enviroment, in what ways? Ex., skin cancer in people. I need a reliable source(s). If you can have links to reliable sources, pleaae.

What would happen to me if I suddenly lived in complete darkness, never being in any light whatsoever?

I’m just wondering since apparently fluorescent lights give off radiation and mercury vapors and you can still get skin cancer even when you wear sunscreen.

Which of the following (only one) would be most likely to lead to heritable mutation?

a) UV radiation can cause skin cancer
b)Chemicals in our environment are toxic and could cause mutations
c)An x-ray is done where the lower abdomen is not shielded

Do you have to use the UV radiation light when getting your nails done?

I heard that the light is very bad and can cause skin cancer. Is it mandatory to use it in the process of getting your nails done?

Is the sun good or bad for your skin?

I was having this discussion with my friend. He said the sun was bad for your skin, UV radiation causing skin cancer and premature aging. His sisters wear sunscreen every day on their face no matter if it’s winter or summer.

Now though I certainly wear sunscreen at the height of summer, I don’t see how avoiding the sun althogether is healthy for you in any way. I mean, the sun provides vitamin D and though you can take supplements for that, getting it the natural way seems better to me. Then again, all the info circulating the net is contradicting so I have no way of telling who is right.

So, what is the answer? Is it good, bad or a bit of both? And why?

how long would squamous cell skin cancer have to grow to get to a 2.6×2.6cm? I had one under the skin growing

on my index knuckle on my hand. I nicked it and a sore started growing, had it removed immediately and the dr. said it had been there for awhile(scc cancer)he said I was very lucky that I nicked it as there was so sign of anything growing there.Nothing!! The sore grew very quickly, in 3 to 4 days it was 2.0 x 1.8. When they operated on me the dr said the cancer was larger underneath than the sore on top of the skin. Patholigist report said it was invasive SCC, well differentiated, clear margins(after 2nd surgery). So my question is how long could this possibly been growing without any sign? No chemo or radiation was needed. I just hope it hasn’t spread!
Thanks for any knowledge about this.

Is the sun really to blame for skin cancer?

I’m just wondering…now that the media and doctors have the whole of society afraid to even get 3 minutes of sun exposure because it could cause skin cancer, how can we be certain it’s directly related to the sun?

I do realize that the radiation can alter the skins cells which leads to cancer, but what about the borage of chemicals we put on our skin DAILY, that have also been shown to cause cancer? Lotion, soap, detergents, fake tan lotion, sun screen, perfumes, pollution, things we ingest, etc…all of these contain harmful ingredients known to cause cancer. (parabens, tocopherol (synthetic vitamin E), preservatives….)

So, why is everyone jumping all over pointing the finger at the sun? If I’m not mistaken, don’t we need a bit of sunlight to absorb vitamin D?
SOme of you seem to be confused..maybe I didn’t word my question correctly. Of course I know the sun causes skin cancer…but my question, is that it seems every case is automatically linked to the sun. No one seems to care about the chemicals we rub on our skin every day, which also lead to skin cancer and other cancers. And, with the increased numbers in skin cancer…are you telling me that people long ago wore sunscreen and therefore had fewer cases? Or maybe doctors didn’t have the same info we have today to diagnose skin cancer, and therefore how do we really know if skin cancer rates have gone up? Don’t forget that screening has gone up, which leads to more diagnoses. AND, why aren’t the countries/cities that get the most sun have the highest skin cancer rates?

Seborrheic Keratosis – Is there a correlation between this and exposure to ionizing radiation in WWII?

Is there a correlation between skin cancer and exposure to ionizing radiation in WWII? I am talking about exposure to the radiation in Nagasaki approximately 2 – 3 weeks after the bomb was dropped.

What happens if a skin cancer cannot be cut out?

You know how if the cancer can be cut out your fine? What happens if not all of it can be cut out? Do you get radiation? Or is it fatal?

Is skin cancer a product of our evolutionary misjudgement?

Why don’t animals get skin cancer? They have no clothes on to protect them from radiation. Is their fur protecting them?
Lately I have started to think that millions of years ago mankind did not have problems with radiation from the Sun but as we started wearing clothes to protect us from the cold, we lost the body hair and an eventually our immunity to the radiation was reduced to a point where we are now very vulnerable. Clothes are as unnatural as artificial sugar.
Incidentally, darker people in Africa have less cases of skin cancer and I attribute that to the fact that they have been wearing less clothing than the rest of the world population and their immunity has not been been affected as much, at least so far.
Any thoughts?
