Radiation Therapy Information

Radiation therapy is not painful while it is administered; however, side effects which people may obtain from the therapy can be the reason for discomfort or pain.

Many persons who have cancer need to have the therapy. In reality, almost sixty percent of people who have cancer get therapy through radiation. Sometimes, this therapy happens to be the only treatment needed by the cancer patients.

Radiation therapy is utilized to cure cancer. It may be used to slow down the growth of cancer cells, stop and treat cancer. It can be used also to reduce symptoms. If cure is not probable, radiation can be utilized to shrink tumor cells to decrease pressure. The therapy used in this means may cure problems like pain or it may avoid troubles such as loss of bowels and bladder control and blindness.

This therapy is frequently used together with other treatments of cancer. The following are some of the examples:

- Radiation therapy as well as surgery – it may be provided before, after or during surgical procedure. What is radiation treatment to a cancer patient after giving up the fight?

My mom has suffered with several types of cancer over the past 3 years and now it’s severely deteriorating all of her bones. She broke a bone in her back 2 days ago just by picking up her coffee pot. Her oncologist says there’s nothing more that can be done. Keeping her out of pain and comfortable is now top priority. He’s having her get radiation treatments daily for the next 2 weeks. He says it’s for pain relief. Is that true?

Has anyone ever had radiation therapy for cancer here??

I was wondering if anyone had links for side effects or could tell me side effects of it? My brother has an abdominal cancer but its spread to other areas and their doing radiation treatment to a tumor on his hip. He can even walk or barely move now after 4 treatments.
